Apple’s upcoming iOS 16 software update could add a feature that Android users have enjoyed for years, according to a new report. If correct, iOS 16 could add a new lock screen that is always active on iPhones, but only if you buy a new one.

Writing in his weekly Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman notes that iOS 16 is set to add a new, always-on feature, which allows iPhones to display information on the lock screen even when they’re turned off. This information might look like the existing complications of Apple Watch, for example, or a modified version of the widgets that iOS 15 already offers.

If this sounds familiar to you, it’s because it was once rumored that a similar feature would be part of the launch of the iPhone 13 last year.

Also, I was told that iOS 16 incorporates future support for an ever-active lock screen, something Apple was originally planning for last year’s iPhone 13. This will allow the iPhone to significantly slow down the frame rate on the lock screen and display quickly. viewable information, similar to the new Apple Watches.

This is the good news. The bad news? You will need to buy a new iPhone 14 to get your hands on the new feature, as well as a Pro model.

I am told that I expect the mode to always be activated exclusively for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models, codenamed D73 and D74, if the function ends up making the cut.

Making the feature an exclusive iPhone 14 Pro and Iphone 14 Pro Max makes sense given the requirement for a new screen to make the magic happen the way Apple wants it to.

Although the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max already offer a variable refresh rate, it only goes from 120 Hz to 10 Hz. If expectations are true, this year’s best iPhones will drop to 1 Hz.

Apple is expected to announce iOS 16 and a series of new software updates during the inaugural WWDC22 conference on June 6. The new iPhones will not arrive until later this year, probably in September or the surrounding area, while the new software will also arrive. make itself available to the public.
