Baron & Budd Investigates Potential Cybersecurity Fraud Cases | News

WASHINGTON – (BUSINESS WIRE) – May 24, 2022–

Today, the national law firm Baron & Budd has announced that it is devoting significant resources to its whistleblower practice to investigate allegations of cybersecurity fraud.

The U.S. Department of Justice is making the prosecution of cybersecurity cases a priority with the implementation of the Civil Cyber Fraud Initiative. When companies contract with the federal government, they are required to comply with certain cybersecurity regulations and standards. These requirements help ensure that government information is protected from cyberattacks.

Businesses commit cybersecurity fraud when they knowingly or recklessly ignore their obligations to comply with government cybersecurity regulations. More often than not, they will misrepresent their cybersecurity obligations. In addition, companies fail to comply with cybersecurity requirements if they are aware of a cybersecurity violation and do not report it to the federal government.

“Whistleblowers are key in identifying and investigating cybersecurity fraud,” said Baron & Budd shareholder Andrew Miller. “Maintaining the integrity of federal government data and information is critical to the nation’s economic stability and security. The company’s experts are well positioned to address these critical errors.”

With a proposed $ 18.7 billion cybersecurity budget in 2021, the federal government has made cybersecurity issues a top priority and is seeking the assistance of whistleblowers to provide information to help enforce cybersecurity fraud.

Whistleblowers who have information that their employer or competitors intentionally breach the cybersecurity requirements of their government contracts or commit other types of cybersecurity fraud may file false claims under the False Claims Act (FCA). The FCA allows whistleblowers to receive a portion of the money recovered by the government if the case results in a satisfactory agreement or verdict.

If you are aware of cybersecurity violations, please contact our whistleblower attorneys for more information about your possible case.
