Butler Community College’s Cybersecurity program offers online option | Business

EL DORADO – Butler Community College will add a fully online option for its one-year cybersecurity certificate and a two-year degree starting in August. The online availability of the program and its affordability can attract nationally working adults interested in entering the high demand field.

Butler has been teaching forensic cybernetics in the cyber industry since 2006. His cybersecurity program is currently a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity Defense, as designated by the National Security Agency. (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security.

“Right now, with global affairs as they are, the demand for cyber professionals is on the rise and the timing couldn’t be better for having this online cyber option available through Butler,” said Tom Nevill, vice president of Academics at Butler Community College. . “From 2018 to 2028, the Kansas Occupational Outlook projected 29% growth for Kansas, and the Occupational Outlook Handbook projected 33% growth in the U.S. between 2020 and 2030.”

As Meghan McCarty Carino reported in Marketplace.org in early March, there are 400,000 cybersecurity jobs open in the U.S. and the average annual salary is more than $ 100,000.

“This is a great industry to enter,” said Brett Eisenman, chair of Butler’s cybersecurity program department. “It’s a great opportunity for those who also want to change careers.”

Eisenman added that he and his colleagues are defending their students in relation to the next steps. “We work with them to find the best fit when it comes to degree transfer and completion programs,” he said. “We also work closely with employers in the area to place graduates directly in the workforce.”

Butler Community College is the oldest cybersecurity program in Kansas and is a recognized leader in cybersecurity training. Butler has transfer agreements to complete his high school diploma with Wichita State University and Oklahoma State University. He is currently finalizing agreements with Fort Hays State University and Friends University.
