FORREST COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) – The Forrest County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) is in the process of upgrading its service technology.

With the help of a $ 500,000 endowment from Congressman Steven Palazzo’s office, the sheriff’s office will purchase 60 body cameras and about 60 new radios.

“It’s something I campaigned on, something I felt was very important, but we didn’t find the funding,” Forrest County Sheriff Charlie Sims said. “It’s an expensive article, especially when we committed not only to equipping our deputies on the road, but also to putting (body cameras) in the correctional environment so that our correctional agents are equipped with that.”

Sheriff Sims said body cameras provide many benefits for MPs at work.

“It helps document what’s happening on the road, it helps document crime scenes, it helps clear agents of baseless allegations, but we still need to follow the process to investigate them,” Sims said.

According to Sims, the FCSO is currently in the process of authorizing the purchase order for both radios and body cameras.

“For the radios, we have to go through the wireless communications commission and, in the body cameras, we did a reverse auction where we got the best, so our agency will see a big technological update in the coming days. said Sims.
