Ever since the iPad Pro first got the M1 chip, people have been wondering when the iPad could use all that power to the fullest, most acknowledged that software was the limiting factor. With WWDC 2022 set to arrive on Monday, it looks like the iPad 16 will receive a considerable boost in features.

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg reports that Apple aims to make the iPad more like a laptop and less like an iPhone.

“Apple Inc. will announce significant changes to iPad software next week at its annual global developer conference, according to people with knowledge of the issue, as part of a push to make the device more like a laptop and less a phone “.

What does it mean? Well, to begin with, the report states that better multitasking features will be introduced in iPadOS 16 that will make it easier to switch between apps and find out which apps are currently open. A dull user experience during multitasking is a common complaint about iPadOS 15, so I’m sure it would be a welcome addition if the rumor is true.

The biggest revelation of the new report is perhaps the rumored ability to resize application windows, which could allow new ways to share the screen with multiple applications.

This could pave the way for more than two apps to share the screen at once. Both Split View and Slide Over in the current iPad software do not allow much space to have multiple applications open and on the screen at once.

While we expect the iPad 16 to show up on WWDC 2022 Keynote on Monday, the official public release of the software is likely not until the fall.
