Jamstack Web Development Community is Booming, New Netlify Report Reveals
SANT FRANCISCO, October 6, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Today, Netlifythe most popular way to create, deploy and scale modern web applications, has presented the results of the year Jamstack Community Survey, showing that Jamstack is fast becoming the main architecture for web developers of all levels of experience. With changing work patterns and the rise of remote work, the web developer community is turning to Jamstack to create faster, more secure websites.
Netlify’s full Jamstack community report shows that modern architecture is becoming the mainstay not only for experienced web developers (half of those surveyed accounted for more than five years of experience), but also for those with less experience and who end up entering the sector. The percentage of community developers who are students has almost doubled in the last year, from 9% to 16%, indicating that Jamstack is becoming the benchmark architecture for new developers, all and that the number of experienced developers in the community has continued. grow up.
Changing work patterns
Analyzing how the pandemic affected working life, perhaps not surprisingly, the report highlighted a shift to remote work that was high among Jamstack developers, with nearly a third (31%) of people they say their working life is now totally remote due to the global situation. pandemic and plans to stay away even after it ends.
The place where developers are has diversified, with newer developers much more geographically diverse. Although most developers still rely on Europe o North America, the percentage from outside these two regions has tripled from 15% to 48% among newer developers. This new population of developers brings global diversity.
Jamstack continues to meet the needs of developers who create for scaling, with nearly a third (32%) of Jamstack developers reporting that the sites they create are for an audience of millions of users. These larger sites are also more likely to target mobile devices, demonstrating the strength of Jamstack in mobile space.
Serverless functions are key
When asked how often different techniques were used to create backends for Jamstack sites, 46% reported using some kind of serverless features. Compared to use and awareness, respondents revealed that functions are becoming almost as ubiquitous as containers.
Jamstack consists of compiling the user interface, decoupling the backend interface, and extracting data as needed. Today Jamstack developers are enabling more dynamic use cases with architecture, with 65% reporting that they are building fully dynamic sites.
Other key findings include:
- Security is the key – Jamstack developers take security more seriously than they did a year ago, with an overwhelming majority that prioritizes security over development speed. In line with this trend, authentication, which helps reduce security challenges, is the most popular third-party service. Performance and uptime also remain a priority for developers.
- Figma is the tool chosen by the designer: When it comes to design tools, 60% of respondents use Figma and love it compared to any other design tool.
- WordPress leads CMS usage, but not satisfaction: WordPress is the clear leader in content management systems, but it is not widely appreciated as a standalone solution, getting much higher ratings from users when used as a headless CMS. 2021 was a milestone for Sanity and Strapi, with Sanity users recording the highest levels of satisfaction.
- React is the most popular of the frameworks: React continues to dominate web frameworks, both in use and satisfaction, but Vue also showed great growth and satisfaction. Next.js also has stellar satisfaction.
