Kirby’s Dream Buffet: Everything you need to know
Kirby has been on a roll with Nintendo Switch games since the release of Kirby and the Forgotten Land earlier this year. Luckily for fans, it doesn’t stop there! On August 17, 2022, Kirby is back and bringing friends with Kirby’s Dream Buffet. Let’s see what makes this dream come true.
Kirby’s Dream Buffet – Release Date
Kirby fans were already spoiled this year with Kirby and the Forgotten Land, but then Nintendo surprised us all in July by announcing a second Kirby game coming in 2022. Although it’s not a full game of Kirby, Kirby’s Dream Buffet would allow people to play. the little pink puffball in what looked like a series of multiplayer obstacle courses. We knew it was coming this summer, but Nintendo didn’t reveal a release date.
We now know that the game will be coming to the Nintendo eShop on August 17, 2022.
Kirby’s Dream Buffet: Trailers
When Not only do we have a nice cinematic clip in the announcement trailer, but we also have a glimpse of the game to help players know what to expect.
To give a little more information just days before the release date, Nintendo released a general trailer to announce the date and talk about the story, modes, customization and abilities.
Kirby’s Dream Buffet: How does multiplayer work?
This Kirby title is not a full Kirby adventure, but a multiplayer party game where players go through obstacle courses as Kirbys of different colors try to gobble up delicious-looking candies to become the biggest and roundest. What better theme for the adorably chubby character than sweets?
It can be played with up to four players through local play or online, but only two players can play together on a Switch. If you have four players locally, you’ll need two Switches on hand.
Kirby’s Dream Buffet – Game
Although the game looks reminiscent of Fall Guys, the popular free-to-play multiplayer game where you have to go through a complicated obstacle course to reach the finish line, there are a few features that set Kirby’s Dream Buffet apart.
What modalities are available?
Kirby’s Dream Buffet features three different game modes, all with the goal of becoming the greatest Kirby.
The first is Race, where players will go on different courses and try to be the first to the finish line, collecting strawberries along the way. Strawberries, in this case, give your Kirby strength so you can push other Kirbys away more easily. The more strawberries you eat, the faster your Kirby will be.
Next up is Minigame, which has a variety of different stages where you struggle to open crates and collect the most strawberries.
Finally, there’s Battle Royale, where players try to knock each other off the stage in bumper-to-bumper Kirby style to steal the strawberries and finish the round as the roundest of all.
What is the new Copy Food ability?
It wouldn’t be Kirby if you didn’t have abilities based on what you eat! Certain treats give your Kirby Copy Food abilities. Eight foods were shown, but only five were expanded upon in the second trailer. Two of the five, Drill and Stone, are only available in Battle Royale mode and are fighting skills used to crush strawberries on your opponents. We also saw a spike ability shown in Battle Royale mode, but it wasn’t named.
The other abilities mentioned were Tornado, which attracts nearby strawberries making them easier to pick; Gelatin, which makes it easier to slide along the walls; and Hi-jump, which allows you to get ahead of the competition.
Kirby’s Dream Buffet – Character Customization
As you play, you’ll find more things to see and unlock. From the stages, to Kirby’s colors, and even Kirby’s outfits. The more you play, the more you win.
Kirby colors and hats
Throughout the trailers, you see a cast of Kirbys available for players to choose from. In addition to the usual pink, we also see Kirbys in light and dark blue, green, yellow, mint, brown, orange, purple, red, watermelon and white. The Car Mouth Cake, Whipped Topping, Kirby Burger and what appears to be a chef’s bandana were shown in the customization screen clip. Based on this screen shown in the overview trailer, we’re guessing there are even more color options and outfits to unlock.
Delights of the characters
Viewers also got a glimpse of 13 character treatment options out of the 256 that will be available. These allow players to customize their starting pedestal with a Kirby figure of their choice in various cookies.
Kirby’s Dream Buffet: What are the stages like?
You will see many stages shown in the trailers. At least 16 were listed in the overview trailer. The stages feature cakes, ice cream, cookies and more traditional Kirby courses. The more strawberries you have, the more stages you can play.
