Voters approved the $ 64,407,654 budget for the Malverne Union Free School District on Tuesday night for the period 2022-2023 and chose incumbent Laura Avvinti for another term on the board.
The budget received 394 votes in favor of 145.
In addition, proposal no. 2 was passed with 394 votes in favor, 116. This will allow for the implementation of capital improvements such as new windows in Maurice W. Downing Elementary School and Malverne High School, repairs to the secondary school runway. and the purchase of two buses.
Avvinti ran without opposition and received 451 votes.
Avvinti is a 20-year-old Malverne resident and currently works as a court clerk in the Village of Floral Park.
He says one of the board’s most important accomplishments during his first term was his vision for the future in terms of educational technology.
“We pushed for kids to get iPads and get away from textbooks,” Avinti said. “And it worked for us because we were advanced when it came to the pandemic because we already had most kids with iPads. So going the distance was a much smoother transition for us than other schools.”
