New research shows Istation Reading grows student achievement
Researchers at the University of Central Florida found that the use of the Istation Reading curriculum is tied to student performance
DALLAS, June 2, 2022 / PRNewswire / – New research from University of Central Florida found that the reading curriculum of Station, a leader in educational technology, helped students in more than eight school districts in the Southeast achieve significant reading gains. who did not use Istation.
The researchers investigated the association between reading performance and time spent using Istation’s reading curriculum. Focusing on the implementation of the supplementary curriculum, the study examined how a computer-adapted, curriculum-based reading program as Istation influenced reading performance.
Fourth- and fifth-graders who used the Station reading curriculum for at least 30 minutes a week saw a significant overall increase in reading and reading comprehension scores from the beginning of the year to the end of the year. In the fourth grade, students in the lower quartile had the highest earnings. These results were published in the Journal of Literacy and Technology. For fifth-graders, the researchers used a quasi-experimental design with matching controls that meet ESSA Tier 2 evidence standards.
Students who used Istation at the recommended levels gained more in their overall scores, vocabulary, and reading comprehension. Level 3 students earned the highest earnings, ranging from 6 to 17 percentile points, when they used the Station curriculum. This study further supports the effectiveness of the Station reading curriculum, as research indicates that the use of Station is directly related to higher literacy gains. In addition, this research also supports the effectiveness of Station as a complementary curriculum tool.
