CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Chrystalla Mouza has been named dean of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign School of Education since Aug. 15, pending approval by the University of Illinois Board of Directors. His title until it is officially approved will be the designated dean of the College of Education. Mouza is the Distinguished Director and Professor of Teacher Training in Educational Technology at the University of Delaware School of Education and Professor of Computer Science and Information Science at the Delaware School of Engineering.

Mouza earned a doctorate, a master’s degree in education, and a master’s degree in instructional technology and media in education from Columbia University’s Teachers College and completed postdoctoral work in the Educational Testing Service. She has experience in teacher learning and learning sciences, applications of technology in K-12 classrooms, teaching and learning outcomes in ubiquitous and mobile computing environments, and computer education.

Mouza is a principal investigator of several projects funded by the National Science Foundation to advance computer education through sustainable partnerships, teacher professional development, and community involvement. She has also served as a principal investigator on several projects funded by the Delaware Department of Education to improve the quality of teachers in high-need schools. Previously, she was the learning scientist on two National Science Foundation projects aimed at improving climate change education by providing effective professional development to teachers. Mouza has received several awards, including the Distinguished Research in Teacher Education Award 2010 from the Association of Teacher Educators.

In addition to publishing her own work in key media, Mouza is the editor of the journal Contemporary Issues in Technology and Teacher Education. He is also a member of the editorial board of several journals, such as Review of Educational Research, Journal of Technology and Teacher Education, and Journal of Research on Technology in Education. He offers editorial assistance to numerous other magazines, conferences, and book publications.
