Pair of Brand-New Cybersecurity Bills Become Law
The Biden White House continued its efforts to strengthen U.S. cyber defenses by signing two bills, both aimed at helping cybersecurity experience and resources flow freely between federal agencies and even municipalities that they need resources.
The first piece of cybersecurity legislation, called the Federal Cyber Workforce Rotation Program Act of 2021, eliminates the bureaucratic paperwork needed to allow information technology, cybersecurity, and other related federal workers to provide experience to various agencies. .
The second law, the Local Government Cybersecurity Act, improves coordination between the Department of Homeland Security and state and local governments.
“For hackers, state and local governments are an attractive target; we need to increase support for these entities so they can strengthen their systems and better defend themselves from harmful cyberattacks,” said Democratic Rep. Joe Neguse, sponsor of this bill. The Colorado congressman said about the move in a statement.
