Rumored NFL Plus streaming service could be hosted by Apple
A new report states that the NFL plans to announce a new NFL Plus streaming package that could be incorporated into an agreement with Apple.
The NFL will proceed with the creation of its own streaming service, NFL Plus, reports SBJ’s Ben Fischer from NFL homeowner meetings in Atlanta. A release is expected in July.
Live games on mobile phones and tablets will be the centerpiece of NFL Plus content, which will sell for about $ 5 a month, although a source warned that the pricing structure may change. It will probably include other content as well; possibilities include radio, podcasts, and various content created by the team.
Ben Fischer reports that the games will be limited to what fans might otherwise see in their local markets, but adds that this deal could be part of a deal with a company like Apple or Amazon, as talks continue about the sale of another stake in the NFL. Means for one of the giants of the transmission:
NFL Plus comes to the fore as talks continue about the possible sale of a stake in NFL Media properties, with Apple and Amazon as favorites. If one of these offers comes to fruition, NFL Plus could be included in this package. Along with that flexibility, doing it alone in this broadcast product will provide the NFL with new data about its users, the sources said.
An April report stated that the NFL Sunday Ticket concert was “Apple to lose” and may have already been signed. Apple is already offering live sports through its Friday night baseball deal with MLB on Apple TV +, however, the broadcasts have been met with mixed reactions, with fans largely belittling inexperienced advertisers of Apple. Regardless, it shows Apple’s desire to have at least some live sports on its growing gaming platform, and the NFL would seem like a natural next step.
