Saudi’s NCA launches ‘HASEEN’ to improve cybersecurity

RIYADH – The National Cybersecurity Authority (NCA) on Wednesday launched the National Cybersecurity Services Portal (HASEEN) to develop and manage cyber services, support communication mechanisms for national beneficiaries and, in general, increase the level of cybersecurity. cybersecurity in the Kingdom.

Eng. NCA Governor Majed bin Mohammed Al-Mazyed began his speech at the ceremony by highlighting the great efforts made by the Guardian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman and the Crown Prince, whose continued support Saudi Arabia ranks second in the Global Cybersecurity Index. (GCI).

Al-Mazyed stressed that cybersecurity has become an essential component in protecting the vital interests of the Kingdom, its assets and its infrastructure. The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector is characterized by rapid development in methods and the complexity of attacks, which requires countries to be in a state of constant readiness and flexibility to neutralize any cyber risk.

He also noted that the HASEEN portal is part of the Authority’s efforts to improve cybersecurity at the national level, to organize national cybersecurity budgets and to develop local content in the ICT sector. Therefore, the regulations issued by the NCA are in line with international best practices.

HASEEN will serve as a unified portal that any national authority can use to improve its resilience to cyber threats, achieve cost-effectiveness, and increase its capacity to discover and address gaps and weaknesses. By the end of 2022, the portal will have the capacity to offer services to more than 400 national entities.

NCA explained that HASEEN was developed by the authority’s technical branch, the Saudi Information Technology Company (SITE). The portal is now in its first phase and consists of four platforms, including “Information Sharing, Compliance Management, File and Link Verification and Email Authentication”.

The information exchange platform provides real-time research information on local and global threats that helps organizations take proactive action. Meanwhile, the compliance management platform is used to measure the level of compliance of national authorities with regard to cybersecurity requirements and controls issued by the ANC authority.

The email authentication platform immunizes and authenticates the email domain names of national entities to protect them from counterfeiting and unauthorized use. The file and link verification platform provides secure analysis of files and links in an isolated environment and detects malware to limit cyber intrusions.

NCA specializes in stimulating the growth of cybersecurity in the Kingdom and in fostering innovation and investment in the field, as well as empowering individuals and non-governmental entities to participate in cybersecurity-related activities and operations as determined by the authority.
