Softball Eliminated by Babson in NCAA Regional Action

Score from box 1 GENESEU, NY (May 14, 2022) – The Stevens Institute of Technology softball team secured its first NCAA victory in program history with a 4-0 victory over No. 19 SUNY Geneseo in its first game of the day. They fell 9-3 in the second game to No. 19 Babson and were eliminated from the NCAA regional game.

It was an impressive 2022 campaign for the Ducks in which they won their second consecutive MAC Freedom title. He finished the year with a 19-19 record. Geneseo finished the season 34-5 and Babson improved to 37-9.

Fifth year Siobhan Cottell led Stevens with a total of four hits in both games, with 2 of 3 in both contests. He also had an RBI. Second year student Madison Kidd he had three hits combined and also had two hits. Graduate student Amanda Delorme He was also solid on the plate, going 3 for 6.

Elimination was at stake in the first game of the day for the Ducks. Stevens took control early in the game and never looked back. Cottell stayed warm on the plate and got the Ducks on the board with a double on the left field at the bottom of the first for a 1-0 first. Delorme made another run in the second with a single on the right field and Stevens led 2-0.

Junior Alex Schoellig and Kidd made a run in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively, to make it 4-0. First year Kaitlin Smith (9-9) threw a full game from the circle for his ninth win of the season. Sophomore Lauren Kersch (15-2) was credited with losing to the Knights.

The second game went back and forth, as both Stevens and Babson sought to avoid elimination and advance to the third and final day of play. Second-year student Chloe Joslin hit a home run to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead at the top of the second. Kidd responded with a simple RBI at the end of the inning and the game was tied 1-1.

In the next inning, Babson made another run in a triple on the right field and Stevens responded quickly again in the second half of the inning. Second year student Jessica Guerrero double on the right field to take home Delorme and tie the game 2-2. Once again, Babson responded. This time the Beavers scored two goals with a single from junior Lexi Morris and the Ducks were 4-2 ahead.

Stevens finally put the lead in the sixth inning. Cottell doubled to start the entry and was replaced in second by the junior Elise Fauske who quickly stole the third. He scored in the next baptism when he was a freshman Emma Ruiz came out second and the score was 4-3.

Babson added five more runs in the seventh to close out the game and win 9-3. Sophomore Moira O’Reilly (21-5) credited herself with the win, putting up six and conceding just one run in four- and two-thirds innings. Junior Erin Circle (9-9) was defeated by Stevens
