Sort Apple Music albums with ease on Mac and mobile

Successful artists have a lot of work to do, as seen in the Music app on your devices. Ideally, it should help you sort your Apple Music albums chronologically, though this isn’t automatic. Don’t worry, sorting is easy on both Mac and mobile devices.

How to Sort Apple Music Albums on Mac

To sort all Apple Music albums on your computer by artist and year:

  1. Open the Music application from the Mac dock.
  2. Click Albums under Library on the left side of the screen.

    To sort albums on your Mac, open the Music app from the Mac dock, and then click Albums in Library.

  3. Click I will see on the Music toolbar.
  4. Select Show display options.
  5. Choose Artist next to Sort below Display Options.
  6. Select Course next to Seeds in Display Options.
  7. Close the See options window.

    To sort albums on your Mac, click Show on the Music application toolbar, and then select Show display options.  Choose Artist next to Sort and select Year next to Then.  Close the Display Options window.

You can also break down and sort the artist’s content (only in your library) by year:

  1. Open the Music application from the Mac dock.
  2. Search for the artist in the search box at the top left.
  3. Click Artists under Library on the left side of the screen.

    To sort artist content by year, open the Music app, then search for the article.  Click Albums in Library.

  4. Click I will see on the Music toolbar.
  5. Select Show display options.
  6. Choose Course next to Sort albums by.
  7. Close the See options window.

    To sort artist content by year, click View on the Music toolbar, select Show display options, Choose the year next to Sort albums by, and close the Display options window.

How to sort Apple Music albums on iPhone and iPad

On your best iPhone or iPad, you can also sort albums by artist and then by year. To do it:

  1. Touch it Music application on the home screen.
  2. Choose Library.
  3. Select Artists.

    To sort your albums on your mobile phone, tap the Music app, and then choose Library.  Then select Artists.

  4. Find your artist.
  5. Faucet Order at the top right.
  6. Choose The newest first o The oldest firstdepending on your preferences.

    To sort your albums on your mobile phone, search for your artist and then tap Sort.  Choose the newest first or the oldest first.
