The App Store makes it easy for you to manage transactions in 175 territories, and Apple administers taxes on behalf of developers in 64 of those territories. The App Store Connect now offers the ability to assign tax categories to your apps and in-app purchases. These categories are based on the content of your app (e.g., videos, books, or news posts) and determine which tax regulations apply in each territory, allowing Apple to administer taxes for you at specific rates.

To assign categories, visit the App Store Connect pricing and availability section. If a category applies to your application, select it at the application level to apply to the application and its associated in-app purchases. You can also manage each purchase from the app individually. Your selections will apply to future transactions, and you will be able to view the new Transaction Tax report in the first full month after setting up your settings. If you choose not to make any changes, your in-app purchases and purchases will be assigned to the App Store software category with the same tax rate used today. Adjust this setting at any time as the characterization of your applications or purchases evolves from the application or when tax legislation changes.
