ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates – (BUSINESS THREAD) – The Institute for Technological Innovation (TII), the pillar of applied research of the Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC) in Abu Dhabi, announced today that its Directed Energy Research Center (DERC) ) has launched a state-of-the-art facility at Tawazun Industrial. The facility consists of seven different workshops and five specialized laboratories. Each covers a specific research area from mechanics and electronics workshops, prototype testing area, coil winding, armature filling, dielectric testing and acoustic prototyping lab. The labs are Pulse Power Lab, Semi-Anecoic Chamber, Tempest Chamber, Acoustic Lab and Laser Development Lab.

The facility houses three mobile research labs that can be used in conjunction with primary labs or deployed in the field for outdoor testing, including two mobile electromagnetic labs and a mobile laser lab. Applications that DERC focuses on include high power electromagnetics (HPEM) and Electromagnetic Compatibility Testing (EMC). DERC also conducts innovative research in the field of HPEM and Pulsed Power, along with prequalification testing for multiple industries in the region.

The first installation of the GCC, the installation of the DERC performs a leading radio frequency in the sector tests to manufacture and characterize high power solid state devices. The installation also conducts high-sensitivity acoustic experiments that require a high degree of sound and vibration isolation, supporting the development and characterization of unusual acoustic transmitters and sensors.

The controlled environment in the laboratories identifies involuntary sound sources in complex electronic systems that can cause side channel leaks. DERC-tailored optical vibration analysis tools can examine the behavior of the mechanical system over a wide range of frequencies.

In addition, the center has also introduced innovative prototypes of signal electronics and acoustics (SEA). to facilitate the local development of advanced solutions such as low / high density RF and acoustic devices. The installation can carry out welding, complex mechanical assembly and testing while advancing prototyping in 3D printing.

The DERC Mobile Laser Laboratory is the first of its kind in the region to conduct outdoor laser experiments to explore the propagation of a high-power laser and study the effect on long-range targets in the region. arid golf environment. With the emission of a continuous laser of several kW, the laboratory is equipped with a telescope mounted on a panoramic inclination, which focuses a beam at a distance ranging from 200 to 2,000 m. Connected to an electric generator, the mobile laboratory is designed to be used autonomously outdoors under extreme temperatures of up to 50 ° C.
